Apple Pie
Grandma Fosters Apple Pie Serves 8
7 large Honey Crisp or Granny Smith Apples, peel and slice
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 TB cornstarch
1 TB Cinnamon
1 tsp Fine Sea Salt
3 Tb butter, cubed 1/4”x1/4”
Method:
Pre-heat oven 400F
Add peeled and sliced apples into a large bowl. Toss in sugar, spices, and cornstarch to coat fully.
Line a pie pan with pie dough, and fill it with apples. Put the butter cubes on top of the apples spread out.
Cover the apples with a rolled-out pie dough and make a hole in the middle or create a lattice design. Egg wash the crust (50/50 cream and egg).
Bake at 400F for 25 minutes to set the pie base. Turn oven down to 375F and continue baking for 35-40 minutes until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack.
Freeze it:
This pie can be frozen before baking for up to 6 months. To bake after being frozen, pull from freezer, and egg wash.
Pre-heat oven 400F with a baking sheet in the oven. Put the pie directly on the baking sheet to help crisp the bottle of the pie, bake for 30 minutes. Turn oven to 375 and continue baking for 35 minutes or until golden brown.
