How to Use Dried Mushrooms

Mushrooms are a great way to add earthiness and umami in a dish. Dried mushrooms are more concentrated in flavor than fresh mushrooms due to the water being evaporated during the drying process. Dried mushrooms retain all of their medicinal and immune-boosting properties.

First, rinse the dried mushrooms to clean. Then you will soak the mushrooms in warm water* for 30 minutes. Once fully hydrated, drain the liquid and reserve the mushroom broth. This liquid is great for adding flavor to your pasta sauce or risotto!

Dried mushrooms can easily be made into a powder by grinding in a food processor blender or mortar and pestle. Ground mushrooms are great to add earthiness to spice blends for rubs and brine, added into the flour when making fresh pasta or savory brownies, or even to steep for mushroom tea.

*Mushrooms do not have to be rehydrated in water, you can use cream or even alcohol.
